Alonzo Benson served as a Private in the Union Army during the Civil War. His first enlistment was at Monroe, Maine on 6 October 1861, mustered on 20 Nov 1861 in Co F, 4th REGT, Maine Vols. He was age 21, single and a farmer. His military records show that on 25 December 1864 he transferred and re-enlisted at Poerwick (?) City, Louisiana in Co A, 13th REGT Maine Veterans. He was listed as a resident of Monroe, Maine, age 24 and described as being 6' 1/2" tall with hazel eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. His records show he was also a member of Co B, 30th Infantry but do not show for what period of time he served in that company.
