I do hereby respectfully pray that I be excepted under Gen. Order No. 2, HdQrs. Dis of the Etowah, Chattanooga, Tenn, June 28th 1864, on the following grounds
1st I am and ever have been strictly loyal to the government of the United States and have opposed secession in all its forms at all times and places.
2nd I have been robbed by the rebel troops because I was a Union man,
3rd I have given valuable information to the Federal troops with regard to roads & c,
My residence is about two (2) miles from the railroad and (3) miles from Resaca Ga. between that place & Tilton Ga.
I am Capt.

After the allegiance to the Union Forces was signed, Elijah's body was found below a bridge in the water. It could not be determined if he fell, jumped or was pushed/thrown by hands unknown. Elijah had lost his sight due to Typhoid Fever and it was not unusual for him to walk across the bridge often. Many family members believe it was intentional because he worked for the Union Forces while living near Etowah Georgia in a Confederate held stronghold. Contributor: Lynda Gibbs February 17,2018
