Mr. James Travis “J.T.” Benton age 96 of Winfield passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield. J.T. was born on March 19, 1922 in Fayette County, AL a son of James Travis Benton and Emma Roby Benton. He owned and operated his own truck for 50 years hauling coal and fertilizer. He was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church where served as an ordained deacon. He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran and a member of the American Legion. He loved his family and enjoyed working in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of over 50 years, Lucy Perry Benton, two sisters, Mary Lou Benton and Emma Dean Herren, brother, Marion Bud Benton, grandson, Chris Langston and great-grandsons, Owen Douglas Walker and Shields Thomas Walker.

J.T. is survived by his daughters, Wanda Walker of Winfield, Barbara Tucker and her husband Wayne of Dora, and Martha Weakley and her husband Wayne of Tuscaloosa, sisters, Maebelle Cagle of Winfield and Billie Ruth Eads of Kansas, grandchildren, Anita Johnson, Michael Langston, Matthew Langston, Annette Langston, David Burgess, Melissa Morell, Rana Tucker, Jerrod Walker and Joseph Walker, 16 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 1 P.M. from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens. Dr. Paul Murphy will be the officiating minister. Michael Langston, David Burgess, Jerrod Walker, Joseph Walker, Mike Johnson, Dusty Linley, Greg Tucker and Taz Morell will be the active pallbearers. Visitation will be on Monday from 11 A.M. till time of service at 1 P.M... Miles Funeral Home of Winfield directing.
