SEROFINO "SAM" GIAMBATTISTA

Serofino “Sam” Giambattista passed quietly on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, following a long illness.

He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on September 29, 1924, to the late Serofino and Vincenza (Torchetti) Giambattista.

He spent his final days visiting with family and friends while resting comfortably at home.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Martha (Marinucci), a son Anthony (Kathleen), six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his son, Serofino (Patricia), brothers Nick (Pearl), and William, sisters Antoinette (late Joe) Manuse and Cecelia (late Frank) Alati.

Sam, a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, attended local schools and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then became a journeyman carpenter and was an active member of Carpenter’s Local #280 for over 48 years. During retirement, he enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and Florida and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed sitting on his porch and observing the neighborhood.

Most importantly, Sam loved being with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who always put others’ needs before his own. It is well known that he could always be counted on for help to anyone who asked. Throughout his life, Sam would continually speak with love and affection for his father who passed away when he was very young. It was his fervent hope to someday reunite with his dad. That day has finally come. Rest peacefully Papa…

A private family service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donation be directed to either Buffalo VA Medical Center, 3495 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215-1129 or Kidney Foundation of WNY, 110 Broadway, Buffalo, NY 14203. Arrangements by M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
