Esther Cox-Thomas, 86, of Winterset, died Thursday, September 20, 2018, at the Winterset Care Center North.
A visitation with family present will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 23, at Ochiltree Funeral Service and a funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery near Macksburg. Memorials may be directed to the Macksburg United Methodist Church and online condolences can be left at ochiltree.com.
Esther Elizabeth Agee was born August 8, 1932, in Perry, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Sara (Jones) Agee. She graduated from East High School in 1952 and began working for Banker’s Life Company in Des Moines. Esther later married Phillip Cox on March 17, 1957. She was a dedicated farmwife and homemaker who cherished raising her son, Craig. Phillip died on April 13, 1982. She later married Donald Thomas September 25, 1990 and Donald also preceded her in death on May 23, 2009.
Esther later worked for the Community Child Care in Winterset for several years.
Esther was not one to join groups and enjoyed old time country music and her cat. This said, she loved her family and cherished any time she could spend with them.
She is survived by her son, Craig (Sharon) Cox of Macksburg; three grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Summers, Kelly Cox, Nick (Caitlyn) Cox; four great-grandchildren, Landon and Collin Summers, Emma and Eli Cox; step-children, Joan Beebe, Judy Thomas, Dan (Barb) Thomas, David (Jamie) Thomas; extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Phillip Cox and Donald Thomas; a sister, Ruth Anderson; and three brothers, Lyndal, Paul and Lee Agee.
