M. Fooks, living a few miles from Chandler, was engaged in cleaning his gun last Sunday afternoon, when it was accidentally discharged, shooting Mrs. Fooks. Dr. Haggard was called, but the wound proved to be fatal and the woman lived only ten hours after the accident. Three children are left motherless.

The Chandler Publicist. (Chandler, Okla. Terr.), Friday, July 6, 1894

A very sad accident, which resulted in the death of Mrs. Matthew Fooks, occurred last Sunday five miles northwest of town. Mr. Fooks was cleaning his gun when in some manner it was discharged, the ball passing through his wife's right shoulder. The accident happened at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and she died at 2 the next morning. She said to the neighbors who came in while she was still conscious: "Do not blame my husband; it was an accident." Because of this statement, no coroner's inquest was held.

She was born Dailey. Father was William John Dailey 1835-1880. Mother Sophia Bottomley Dailey 1820-1921. Lived in Westport, Missouri. Children first Rosa Fooks Tarager. Buried Johnson county. Emma Fooks married Segner. Buried Johnson County.
