Myrtle Allen Bahr, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away Sept. 25, 2018, at MorningStar Senior Living Center. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.

Myrtle was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Jackson, Wyoming, to William Wilford Allen and Myrtle Vivian Hamblin Allen. Her mother died when she was 3 weeks old, and she was raised by her uncle Frank and aunt Juliet Mikesell. Myrtle felt special because she had two daddies, Daddy Bill and Daddy Frank, and she loved having two families of brothers and sisters. She grew up and attended schools in Victor, Idaho, and graduated from Teton High School.

When Myrtle was 14 years old, she met the love of her life, Milo Dean Bahr. After a four-year courtship, they were married on June 8, 1949, in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS Temple. Their marriage was a perfect love story. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings.

Myrtle and Milo lived in Tetonia until 1958 then moved to Ammon. A year later, they moved to Lincoln where they lived for 22 years, where she was a homemaker and worked as a custodian for the LDS Church. In 1980, they moved back to Tetonia, where, together, they worked on the family cattle ranch and continued to work as custodians for the LDS Church. Myrtle was a very hard worker.

Myrtle always loved flowers, especially pink ones. Wherever they lived, she always had a beautiful flower garden. She also enjoyed gardening and always had a great crop of strawberries which she made into many pies and jam that all of her family enjoyed. Milo almost always had a milk cow, or they bought raw milk from a neighbor. With this milk, she made homemade ice cream, butter and chocolate cream cakes. She also made wonderful cookies. She usually baked four double batches of cookies at a time and put many in the freezer. There were always cookies for everyone. She also made wonderful bread and rolls.

Most of all, Myrtle loved Milo and all of her family. She went hiking, camping, horseback riding, water skiing and attended many baby blessings, baptisms, marriages and other family events.

Milo and Myrtle semi-retired in 2001. They served a service mission for the LDS Church in the New Mexico Albuquerque Mission on the Hopi and Navaho Indian reservations. They later served as chaplains at the Teton Valley Hospital.

In 2012, Myrtle and Milo moved to Ammon, Idaho, to be closer to their children. There they made many new friends and were reunited with old friends. In 2017, they moved into MorningStar Senior Living Center. There she had many loving caregivers. We thank all of them for their loving and understanding care they provided as she struggled through her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Myrtle is survived by her children: Dean (Jane) Bahr, of Ammon, Idaho; Sandra (Jay) Fidel, of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Pam (Kim) Buck, of Ammon, Idaho; Mary (Dave) Southwick, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Kay (Gaby) Bahr, of Germany; Trina (Bruce) Keck, of Menan, Idaho; and Shane (Kristin) Bahr, of Spanish Fork, Utah; sisters Mabel Mikesell Gordon, of Ammon, Idaho, and Louise Mikesell Ellis, of Victor, Idaho; and sister-in-law Doris Mikesell, of Burns, Wyoming. Myrtle and Milo had 29 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Milo Bahr; daughter-in-law Charlotte Sessions Bahr; both sets of parents; sisters Clella Allen Hall and Carma Mikesell Jensen; and brothers, Marlo Allen, Warren Allen, Ronald Allen and Eugene Mikesell.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Tetonia Ward Chapel with Bishop Tom Richins officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Tuesday from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Cache Clawson Cemetery.
