Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was enrolled in the 35th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on September 10, 1863, and was mustered in as a Private in Company D on October 13, 1863. He was mortally wounded at the Battle of Resaca, Georgia, and died there in a Field Hospital in May 23, 1864.

On January 15, 1865 his widow, Susan France, filed for a United States Army Widow's Pension (Application #79,041, Certificate #47,153).
