Alamo, Ca – Polly Buzza Kenaston passed away
peacefully with herdaughter at her bedside. Her ashes were scattered under the Golden Gate Bridge at her request. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Polly moved to Hollywood, California when she was 14. Polly was a prolific artist who began her career in art and design while working at Buzza Cardoza, her father's greeting card
company. She has exhibited her work many times and her paintings light up the walls of several dozen homes. She graduated from Westlake School, and studied at Chouinard Art School. With her first husband, Robert Clark Lawton, she designed and built a home in the Malibu hills. When she divorced, she began working in interior design and moved to Malibu, California. In 1970, she moved to Carmel Highlands and opened her own successful interior design and antiques business. In 1977, she married Jack Kenaston and lived briefly in Burbank, California, returning to Carmel Highlands when Jack retired. They lived in the Highlands for 30 happy years, traveling extensively and collecting antiques and art. Upon Jack's death, Polly moved to Del Mesa Carmel, where she lived until April 2006. Her last move was to Alamo, California. Polly was also a tireless volunteer in the community. She received an Honorary Life Membership with The Monterey Museum of Art for establishing the Jesters. She was a member of the Central Coast Art Association, the Pacific Grove Art Museum, the Carmel Women's Club, the Peninsula Club, the Republican Women and the Quail Lodge.
Polly is survived by her children, John Lawton (Carole) of Pacific Grove and Gigi Lawton (Bob Halliwell) of Danville; grandchildren, Jillian Halliwell of Los Gatos, and Ian Halliwell of Danville; her brother, Duke Buzza (Judy); nephew Shane Buzza (Beth) and niece Stephanie Izzarelli Ethan. She is also survived by Jack's children, Connie Stewart (Rob) and Court Kenaston (Sally).
Polly's motto was, "No matter the consequence, tell it like it is!" She was a friend to many with a great sense of humor and love of fun. Polly will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
