ndra Sandy Kay (McFarland) Scanlan, born on March 23, 1958 in San Diego, California, to the late Harue (Tanaka) Shiroma and her step / real father the late Tadao Shiroma, passed away at age 60 on August 12, 2018 in Novato, California. After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco, Sandy became an intern for KPIX, and later attended City College of San Francisco. Sandy s career included stints at Hertz and UPS where she was one of the first female delivery drivers in San Francisco. She was best known for being active in the fitness industry at the YMCA, Bally s, and various city Park and Rec programs as an Aerobics Instructor until retiring in 2012. During that time Sandy also created Sandy s Hair Wraps, a business that grew out of a hobby done at children s birthday parties. After that Sandy trained to be a private chef and had started her own catering business. Sandy was married. She is survived by her son and daughter, brother and sister. Sandy will also be missed by close friend Dan who helped her navigate some of her most difficult times in recent years. She also leaves behind her dog, Ollie. Sandy was an avid fan of Bay Area sports teams and she enjoyed friends, family and fun in the sun. Donations in Sandra's name to Homeward Bound of Marin and or Muttville of San Francisco are welcome and appreciated. Friends and family members may attend the Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 25 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Sandy s home that she shared with a lifelong friend.. The funeral home will be Monte s Chapel Of The Hills, 330 Red Hill Ave, San Anselmo.
