Wallace McCandless, 65, of Country Club Lane, Tompkinsville, died Sept. 17, 2004 at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

He had been a mechanic for Scotty's Construction for 23 years; owned Wallace Service Center and Auto Sales in Tompkinsville; and was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church.

Born in Metcalfe County on March 18, 1939, he was a son of the late William and Ora Lee (Douglas) McCandless, and the husband of Shirley (Rich) McCandless, who survives. They were married Dec. 31, 1978 in Metcalfe County.

Other than his wife, survivors include four sons, Jeff, Timmy and Greg McCandless, all of Glasgow, and Michael Shaw, Tompkinsville; three daughters — Debbie Simmons, Glasgow; Rita Mitchel, Tompkinsville; and Tammy Graham, Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, Bobby McCandless, Knob Lick; two sisters, Carolyn Young, Knob Lick, and Mary Katherine Erwin, Edmonton; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Phillip and James "Tick" McCandless, and two sisters, Bonnie Atwell and Connie McCandless, all preceded him in death.

Serving as pallbearers were Benny Reed Plumlee, Lanny Lee, Howard Gearlds, Danny Johnson, Johnny Biggerstaff, Jeff and Edgar Sprowl, Johnnie Cross and Daksan Chou.

Honorary pallbearers were J.R. Roland, Cleedas Jobe, Timmy Johnson, Raymond Harper, Wayne Cleary, Frank Rich, Niki Johnson, Linda Sprowl, Wayne Short, Tuck Johnson, J.C. Carlock, Lena Rose Jobe, Shane, Tyler and Bradley McCandless, Jamie Shaw, Shane Henson, Jamie Thompson, David Biggerstaff and Roger Gillenwater.
