Aurelia B. Anderson, “Adele,” 96, of Ridgefield, passed away on September 19, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late Robert Anderson.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Perth Amboy, N.J. on June 17, 1922, a daughter of the late Clemente and Purification (Torre) Ruiz. She was raised in New York City and graduated from Textile High School. Mrs. Anderson lived in Brooklyn and Queens for almost 50 years.
A resident of Ridgefield for the past 30 years, family was her number one love, especially her grandsons. Mrs. Anderson was a permanent fixture at her two grandsons’ soccer, basketball and baseball games. She said many times that “attending my grandsons’ sporting events enabled me to age gracefully.” It was not uncommon for coaches, players and parents to hug Adele before or after games. For many teams, she was the “team grandmother” and she relished that honor. Mrs. Anderson loved watching the Ridgefield High School soccer, basketball and baseball teams and traveled the state to watch her grandsons and their friends play games. Mrs. Anderson was also a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Mrs. Anderson’s business career extended almost sixty years as she loved working and interacting with people. She was an office manager and bookkeeper for numerous companies, including Arista Windows, Gay Boyer Inc. and Ethan Allen.
For her final act as the matriarch of her family, Mrs. Anderson attended her grandson, Kevin, and his wife, Stephanie’s wedding ceremony at St. Mary’s Church just days before passing.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her daughter Laura Leonard and her husband, Thomas. She is also survived by two grandsons: Matthew Leonard and his wife, Annmarie and Kevin Leonard and his wife, Stephanie. In addition, Mrs. Anderson was predeceased by her sister Emilie Garcia and is survived by her sister, Mary Lynch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 10:15 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield.
Friends will be received on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
