Son of Jessie Abby(1838-1896) and Huldah Mary(Wilbur)(1844-1894)Gates.
Married Jennie Eliza Ward 3 March 1896.
They lived on a farm in Madison, they raised crops, pigs, and 12 KIDS that lived. In todays times they would have gone to jail, but in the turn of the century repeated beatings with a buggy whip where the norm. Very cold people, they left Nebraska after the kids all started running off, and settled in Norco, California in 1936. Eight of the kids had come to the area first. The weather was better and there was work. Life was better.He died of bronchial pneumonia, 5 months after moving, he was 71.

Funeral Servies for A.E.Gates Friday
Funeral sevices for Alfred Lee Gates, who passed away Tuesday will be held Friday afternoon, at 2:30 p.m. at Hoover-Bell Chapel. Mrs.John Jeffreys of the Church of God will officiate. Burial will be at Sunnyslope Cemetery.
Mr.Gates, who had resided at Norco for about five months, is survived by his wife Jennie E.Gates of Norco, six daughters, five sons and several grandchildren.

I have the death certificate, he died of Broncial Pneumonia.
I have a picture showing him in a suit on the kitchen table. Funerals often were done at home.
