NOTE: Buried to her immediate left is Hannah (Metcalf) Blake, wife of her son Royal Blake. There are no stones on her right. Zipporah's husband, Dr. Obadiah Blake, is not buried at this cemetery, but at West Cemetery, on Bradford Street, in Keene, NH.

JOURNAL OF ABNER SANGER:

PAGE #116 "Fair and clear. I go to work for Royal Blake. Forenoon we thrash beans and turn rowen. Afternoon we cut up and cart John Swan's wife's corn. Very fair, warm and pleasant. This noon Madame Blake [Zipporah Blake] and I have wrangle and etc." [OCT 14, 1776].

PAGE #126 "Morning Fair and cold. I get breakfast at Major Willard's. Then I go to Baker's and get shoe leather cut out for El and I. Near noon I set out home. I ride Jonathan Willard's Stile's horse. "Old Goody Witch," Dr. Blake's wife, raves and throws clubs at me. Moderate. I borrow meal at Henry Ellis's, then home. Cold night. [JAN 11, 1777].

"Dr. Obadiah Blake (1719-1810), from Wrentham, Mass., was one of Keene's first physicians. He was an original member of the church and was made a deacon in 1761. He and his first wife Zipporah (1728-1785) had seven children. Abner Sanger called Dr. Blake, "Dr. Num-Nose," and Mrs. Blake, "Old Goody Witch."
