The first time I saw him, I was in love, as much as a girl can be.

Paul and I were good friends from 4th grade in Lakewood, Ohio, up until his death when he was only 28. His younger sister and I were best friends at about that same time. We did everything together as kids, I had no brothers and sisters.

Paul was shot in an accident in Toledo, Ohio. He was my first real boyfriend, and we remained friends until his death.

Paul served two years in the Army during Viet Nam. The oldest of six siblings, Paul leaves behind four sisters Sherry, Susan, Kathy, Sandy & one brother Tim, his father, Paul Gay Brown, nieces and nephews, and so many friends. His mother passed away when he was a young adult.

I did a lot of firsts with Paul, including drinking, getting drunk, acid, tattoos, a lot of firsts. I gravitated toward fun behavior and he was so good looking, deep blue eyes and always pretty calm. They lived close to me at first, they were in a huge house, I lived in an apartment with my mom.

Their big family moved around a lot, yet we managed to keep in touch. We didn't have a car and their mom would drive to Lakewood to get me many weekends. They lived in Twinsburg, Beachwood, a lot of places in Cleveland, then to Lakewood. It never really ended.

Paul loved me, my first and I loved him too. For years. He had my name tattooed on his arm in TWO places! He gave me my first two tattoos, with a needle and string wrapped around it and dipped in India ink. I can see now why my mom didn't care for me hanging out with them so much, or for me being crazy about Paul!

Paul came out to visit me in San Diego in 1976, after I had just gotten married. He came to stay with us for a while, try to get a job and live in California. But my ex-husband blew off some fingers on new year's eve, blahh the timing wasn't right for that visit.

So he left in January and moved to Toledo, he knew someone there, but he was from the Cleveland area. I never saw him again, the last time was at my house. Chris McNeff, http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSvcid=27851&GRid=19382458& my other friend in here, took Paul to the airport for me. My stupid ex- I couldn't even take him to the airport.

As I get older, I think of all the years he missed, it has been so long.

I was glad to see the absolutely beautiful cemetery his family arranged for him to be laid to rest in.

Paul is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, Ohio.
Section O, Lot 81, Grave 1.

Paul was buried on his birthday.
