West Harwich- Dorothy M. Bush of West Harwich, MA passed away peacefully on July 16, 2018 at Wingate of Harwich. Born in Acushnet, MA on December 6, 1924 and raised in Acushnet, Dorothy was the only child of Earle T. and Marjorie F. Cory.

Dorothy graduated from New Bedford High School in 1942 and then went work on the advertising staff of the New Bedford Standard Times. As many of the “greatest generation” Dorothy enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a W.A.V.E on Navy Day, October 27, 1944. She served as a Seaman Second Class in what was then known as “THE MAIN NAVY BUILDING” in Washington, D.C. where she helped track all of the U.S. Navy ships in the pacific theater. It was in Washington, D.C. where she met the love of her life Gunnery Sergeant Jack W. Bush U.S.M.C when he came home from the battles of Guam and Iwo Jima. They were married in 1945 after the end of the war.

Dorothy was a member of the Mayflower Society as well as the DAR. She loved golf and spending time with her children, grandchildren and numerous great grand children. She will be remembered fondly as a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend.
Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband Jack and is survived by her children, Bethany Mansfield of Buzzards Bay, MA. Karin Gillis of Fuquay Varina, NC. and her son Eric Bush of West Harwich, MA. Seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive her. Services will be private.
