Gene Adams, age 73, of Raymond, passed away on October 6, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born on September 13, 1945 in Pitman Township, the son of the late Earl R. and Ethel M. Snyder Adams. Gene came from a family of three brothers and five sisters and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He served in the Illinois Army National Guard from November of 1965 until November of 1971, reaching the rank of Sergeant.

Over the years, he was a farm equipment salesman for Benning’s Equipment, Raymond Implement and Agri-Tech all in Raymond. He also helped several area farmers in the spring and fall, and was a proud gardener who enjoyed sharing his produce with others.

He married Lynn Buchak of Nokomis on December 12, 1977 in Raymond and she survives him. He has one daughter Nicole “Nikki” (Jeff) Stover of Fenton, MO, and one son Derek Adams of Raymond, both who survive him. His granddaughter Paige Stover and grandson Griffin Stover both of Fenton, MO also survive him.

Gene was a member of the American Legion and served on the Drainage District Board. For nearly 30 years Gene played a major part during the Raymond 4thof July Celebration bringing joy to many. He and Carl Peger set off the annual fireworks display one at a time and had many close calls. But, it was all worth as at the end of the show, horns would honk as a sign thanks and approval.

No services are planned but there will be a visitation for the public from 5-7pm on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Hough Funeral Home in Raymond.
