Tombstone Inscription: William P. Algeo, son of J and A Algeo. Died Oct 26, 1851, Aged 9 Yrs. 7 Mos. 10 dys.

William's father John Algeo arrived in Charleston, South Carolina from Ireland in 1825 on the ship "Floreda". His age is 25 years.

The 1850 Henry County Iowa census notes this childs family to be living in New London Township, Henry County, Iowa. Family consists of father John age 56 born in Ireland and the mother, Ann age 44 also born in Ireland. All the following children at home born in Virginia: Thomas 22yrs., John 18yrs., Ann R. 13yrs., Eugenia age 10, William P. 8yrs and Ridgely age 6yrs.

1856 Census in Pleasant Grove township in Des Moines County, Iowa notes head of household as John Algeo (Jr.) age 24 born in Virginia, mother, Ann Algeo age 50 born in Ireland and noted as a "widow"., other children at home of Ann's are Eugenia age 10 and Ridgley age 11 both born in Virginia.

1860 Census notes the following: (in reference to family after Little William's passing)
Head of household is spouse to William's sister Eugenia. This Census takes place in Yelllow Springs township, Des Moines County, Iowa: Head of household is John Archer born in Illinois age 31 and occupation is that of farmer. Wife Eugenia is age 20 born in Virginia. Child of John and Eugenia age 9 months and born in Iowa. Living with them is Eugenia's mother Ann age 50 and born in Ireland. Ann's son and Eugenia's brother Ridgley age 16 and born in Virginia.

Sometime between the 1860 and 1870 census John Archer and the family move to San Joaquin County California as they show up here in the 1870 Census. His real estate value is that of $12,000.00 and personal estate value of $3000.00. He is age 44, Eugenia age 30. Their two children Little Ann age 10 and Edward age 8.. both born in Iowa. Eugenia's mother Ann Algeo is now age 64 and then her son Ridgley age 23. Their is one farm laborer here, one cook and one servant.

I do believe William's father John Algeo passes in Henry County Iowa. I have found no death record of his passing in 1850 and at this point his wife Ann is noted as a "widow" in the 1856 Iowa Census. As stated on John's findagrave page it notes the body might of been later moved to his now burial place of Linden Cemetery, Linden, San Joaquin County, California. This was certainly not common back in the day, but this would let he and Ann rest together. Although now little William was left here at Farlow Cemetery.

Notes on William's brother Thomas: Born in 1829 in Virginia. Marries Rebecca Burge daughter of Jesse and Eliza. Lived in Holt Twsp, Taylor County, Iowa. One child Arena/Errena Bell Meredith. Thomas passes in July of 1882 as per his probate records. Unable to locate death info or burial. Rebecca later married Eber Ward..
