Donald F. Abernethy of Kingston, a dentist, died on Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at his home. He was 82. Mr. Abernethy was a member of the American Dental Society and the New York State Dental Society. He was a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant junior grade. He was on the dental staff at Camp Lejaune, N.C. He graduated from Kingston High School, Fordham University and Georgetown University's School of Dentistry. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. He was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Kingston, to the late William and Julia Flynn Abernethy. Survivors include his wife, Janet Noble Abernethy, whom he married on April 29, 1950; three daughters, Margaret Lockmiller of West Palm Beach, Fla., Rose Brelsford of Hyde Park and Ellen Marshall of Hingham, Mass.; one son, Jack of Ridgewood, N.J.; One sister, Rose Abernethy Irving of Kingston. A brother, Jack, died previously. The funeral procession will form at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, and thence to St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, where at 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be sung. Internment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
