Born in Germany, he lived in Springfield for the past 67 years.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He married Emma Bojarzin on July 24, 1913.
On son, Fred A., preceded him in death in 1973.
Surviving are his wife, Emma, of Springfield; three sons, William C., and Emil, both of Springfield; Gus, of Bethalto; one daughter, Mrs. Harold Tengler, of Springfield; one brother, Fred, of Germany; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services were at Bisch Memorial Home.
Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
