Mr. Harold W. Hassemer, age 75, of 10120 Polifka Road, Whitelaw, died Tuesday morning, June 25, 2002 at the Clement J. Zablock VA Medical Center in Milwaukee.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1, 2002 at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. The Rev. Theodore Hendricks will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with interment of his cremated remains to follow in the parish cemetery. Kubale-O'Connell VFW Post #6179 of Cato will conduct military graveside honors.

Harold was born June 10, 1927 in the town of Kossuth, son of the late Charles and Mathilda Ahl Hassemer. He attended St. Anne grade school and the Rockwood school. Harold enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 17, 1945 in Milwaukee and served in Germany until being discharged on March 2, 1947 at Fort Sheridan, Ill. He married the former LaVerne Peroutka on May 7, 1949 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. The couple made their home in Francis Creek and LaVerne preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 1979. Harold worked as a crane operator for Manitowoc Engineering Co. from 1951 until 1965 and then worked a bulk fuel sales route for the Whitelaw Co-Op Association until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Kubale-O'Connell VFW Post #6179 of Cato, Francis Creek Sportsman Club and the Kellnersville Senior Citizens and Meal Site.

Survivors include five sons and four daughters-in-law: David Hassemer of Manitowoc and his special friend, Diane Korinek; Mark (Mary) Hassemer; Paul (Virginia) Hassemer; Frank (Vicky) Hassemer; John (Peggy) Hassemer, all of Francis Creek; one daughter and son-in-law: Mary (Steve) Caves of Mayville, Wis.; 13 grandchildren: Corie Hassemer; Bethany (Phil) Kula; Shannon Kocian; Nicole Kocian; Andrea Hassemer; Kendall Hassemer; Gwen Hassemer; Bryan Hassemer; Gavi Hassemer; Matt Hassemer; Justin Hassemer; Brady Hassemer; Aubrey Hassemer; one sister and brother-in-law: LaVerne (James) Tuma of Francis Creek; one brother and two sisters-in-law; Milton (Ann) Hassemer; Jean Hassemer, all of Francis Creek; nieces, nephews , other relatives and friends survive including Harold's special friend, Bev. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Dennis in 1978; his wife, LaVerne in 1979; and one brother: Ralph in 1995.

Relatives and friends may call at St. Anne Catholic Church on Monday, July 1, 2002 from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10 a.m.
