A memorial service with military honors to celebrate his life is scheduled for Saturday, October 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus, OK.
Bob spent a large portion of his childhood with his grandparents Robert Cullen and Myrtle Mayfield in Glencoe, OK due to the heavy travels of his parents. He graduated from Medford High School in Medford, OK in 1957. Following high school, he joined the United States Navy, serving at Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico as an Aviation’s Engine Mechanic. After the Navy, Bob enrolled at OSU Tech, Okmulgee, OK, pursuing a career in commercial printing, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. While attending OSU Tech, he met the love of his life, Verna Gaye Frye on a blind date and after a very short courtship, married on June 17, 1961 in Verna’s home town of Weleetka, OK. Immediately after, Bob and Verna moved to Altus, OK where he was offered a pressman position at Lackey Printing Company, that later became Altus Printing Company, which he and Verna purchased in 1972, retiring in 2005.
To this union, three children were born. Nikki, Ronda and Robert “Robby”.
Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Through the years he was an active member in the Altus Jay Cee’s, Altus Kiwanis Club, Altus Lions Club, served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Navajo School Board where his 3 children attended.
Bob was a spiritual man and involved in many church activities. Along with his wife Verna he was a charter member of the Highland Heights United Methodist Church, serving on various committees.
Bob enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their sports and school activities and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast.
