Virginia Beach - Ralph J. Sykes passed away April 21, 2016. He was born February 17, 1934 to the late Harvey and Bessie Sykes of Goldsboro, NC. Survivors include his wife of 51 years Dorothy Long Sykes; son Jeff (Dixie); daughter Cindy Denny (Darrin); 4 grandchildren- Morgan & Afton Sykes and Andrew & Britney Denny; also 1 sister, Pauline Stocks of Pikeville, NC.
He was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College, Wilson, NC and received a Master's Degree from East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. Ralph was a teacher/ assistant principal in Aurora, NC; Fairfax Co, VA; then finally in Va Beach (Kempsville HS, Bayside HS, Kellam HS, Green Run HS, Kempsville Jr. High, and finally Princess Anne HS where he retired in 1995) after 40 years in education.
A Memorial Service will be held at the chapel at Smith & Williams, 4889 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462 on Sunday April 24, 2016 at 1:00pm.
