Doris was the daughter of Evelyn Wade Duncan and Lewis Truman Duncan. Doris, born in Phoenix on March 1, 1936, was raised in Peoria, Arizona, the birthplace of her Mother. Doris, always a very good student, was Salutatorian of her Peoria High School graduating class of 1954. Doris continued her education at Arizona State College which later became Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona and received both her Bachelor and Masters degrees from Arizona State University. Doris married Albert (Al) Vorice Cherry in El Cajon, California in 1958. Doris and Al had two children. Daughter Leslie Denise was born in 1960 and Albert Lee was born in 1964. Doris and Al later divorced. Doris's career after college began with teaching home economics in elementary school at Williams Air Force Base near Chandler, Arizona, followed by working for the State of Arizona for the Registrar of Contractors and serving for several years as an Administrator of the office of the Director of the Arizona Department of Economic Security. Doris was well respected and appreciated for her proficiency and expertise in fulfilling the duties of her position at the Department of Economic Security. Doris not only did her job well for the Director, but the Ziti Salad that Doris prepared for the Christmas party was always requested by other staff members. The Bert Greene recipe was a favorite and so was Doris's preparation of it which involved a lot of work chopping the ingredients! Doris was a very talented, kind, sincere, compassionate person. Doris's great love for her three Granddaughters was so apparent in the amount of time she spent with them. Doris, an adored Grandmother, was a Grandmother who raised her Granddaughters. At the time of Doris's passing, her brother Gary Duncan, his wife Judy, Doris's daughter Leslie Cherry, and Doris's three Granddaughters, Deanna, Megan, and Emily survived her as well as eight Great Grandchildren, a nephew, two nieces, and several cousins. Doris's son, Albert Lee Cherry, predeceased her. It is with great sadness but wonderful memories that we say goodbye to Doris.
