Arthur is the son of John Crawford and Polly Johnson, who moved to Lawrence County Arkansas with their five small children. John supposedly met a violent death either by drowning or being eaten by a wild animal during a hunting trip. He never returned, but his hunting dogs did. Arthur, who was born in Augusta Co, VA in 1806, was only a small boy when his father disappeared. He remained with his mother, being the only son, until he was 22, and then began doing for himself, coming to Washington Co. about 1832, where he located on a farm. He married Sarah Wood in 1825. They moved from West Fork to Sulphur Springs in 1876.

Major John Crawford, (1828-1885) Major in the Confederate Army
Rebecca, (1831- ) wife of W P Loudon
Jesse, (1835- 1864)killed in West Fork, a soldier in the Confederate Army
Mary Emiline, (1838-1924) wife of James W Brown, both buried in Brentwood Cemetery
Johnson (1842-1935) , married Clementine Gilland, 10 children farmer and Baptist minister
James K P (1845-1860)
Adeline Martha, (1848-1890) wife of John L West, buried in the Dora Cemetery
