"Abe S. Austin Is Dead at 80.
Veteran in Coal Business Succumbs in Wauwatosa After 3-Month Illness.
Abe S. Austin, sr., long associated with the coal industry here, died Saturday at his home, 7921 Milwaukee av., Wauwatosa, after an illness of three months. He was 80.
Mr. Austin came to Milwaukee 60 years ago from Columbus, Wis., where he was born. For several years he was associated with the old Whitnall-Rademacher Coal Co., first as a salesman and later as sales manager. When that firm was reorganized he started the old Weaver-Austin Coal and Dock Co., with which he was connected 30 years. After leaving that firm he became president of the old Kanawha Fuel Co., and before his retirement in 1931, was also president of the Old Abe Mining Co. of Duquoin, Ill.
For many years Mr. Austin owned various Waukesha county farms where he kept harness race horses many of which saw action on fair tracks throughout Wisconsin and neighboring states. Mr. Austin was formerly active in the Wisconsin club and the Athletic club.
Surviving are his wife, Lottie L., two daughters, Mrs. Malcolm Dunlop of Meadville, Pa., and Miss Virginia Austin of Milwaukee; three sons, Abe S., jr., J. Leonard, and Charles L., all of Milwaukee; and two brothers, Thad and Frank, both of Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services directed by the Brigden funeral service will be held at 2:30 p. m. Monday at the Radke chapel, 4312 W. Lloyd st. Burial will be in Forest Home cemetery."
