Mavis May Wade, 88, of Weston went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 19, 2018, at the Eldercare Nursing Home Facility in Ripley.
She was born in Kistler, WV on August 22, 1930, a daughter of the late Keenan and Georgia Morgan Abshire.
Mavis married on June 11, 1949, and settled easily into her role as loving mother and wife. She was born a nurturer and it was evident in her daily life and interests.
Survivors include three children, Deborah Scalise and husband, Joseph, Gary Wade and wife, Beth and Larry Wade and wife, Cynthia; eight grandchildren, Leigh Ann Bianchi and husband, Fabrizio, Kari Anderson and husband, Andrew, Somer Givens and husband, Michael, Susan Jeran and husband, Jason, Ian Wade, Todd Wade, Aimee Killian and husband, Kenneth and Christopher Wade and wife, Joy; eleven great- grandchildren, Zachary and Logan Bianchi, Eva and Rosalie Anderson, Sullivan and Lilly Givens, Catherine and Dylan Jeran, Cameron Killian and Roryk and Ronyn Wade and one sibling, Sylvanis Abshire.
In addition to her parents and former husband, (Hayward Leon Wade of Weston), Mavis was preceded in death by four siblings, Harley Abshire, Donald Abshire, Emma Cook and Eva Sanders.
Mavis loved to sew and make clothes for her daughter. She also loved quilting blankets for her family. Mavis was a tremendous cook who took pride in her fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, graham cracker pie and potato salad. Her love for the outdoors was evident by looking at her flower garden. She enjoyed watching them bloom and flourish. Mavis also enjoyed taking long walks with her friends, family and beloved dogs.
From laughter to playing games, Mavis always loved spending time with her grandchildren. She would often take them to the First Baptist Church in Weston, where she was a faithful member for several years. She was constantly teaching her grandchildren the importance of having faith in Jesus Christ. She may not have had an impressive list of degrees, but her accomplishments in life greatly outweigh any college diplomas. She has a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ, which she passed down to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We will be forever grateful.
