Died in Early Life. The friends of Hon. J.E. Carlisle of the Utah Journal, Logan will deeply regret the loss which he has sustained in the death of his amiable wife, Mrs. Eliza C. Goodrich Carlisle. She died at Logan on the 5th day of June, after a long and severe affliction, caused by cancer of the womb.
She was the daughter of Eliza Ann Goodrich and George Albert Goodrich, of Uintah County, Utah. She was born in Salt Lake City, December 26, 1865. She received a good common school education and studied a year at the Deseret University, giving considerable attention to the study of the rudiments of music, after which she taught school in Morgan County. She was united in marriage to Mr. Carlisle, Oct 13, 1885.
-Ogden Standard Examiner, June 8, 1888
Eliza Caroline "Carlie" Goodrich was born to Eliza Ann Taggart and George Albert Goodrich.
Carlie's father's third wife, Aunt Rhoda (Slade Goodrich) taught school nearly all her adult life and Eliza and her sisters had to take turns staying with her and caring for her children. Rhoda was teaching in Littleton and Eliza was staying with her. One night in the winter Carlie took the baby girl and went across the street to one of the neighbors. Their dog ran out at her. She fell down and the fall broke the baby's leg and broke Carlie's heart.
Eliza married John Edward Carlisle on October 13, 1885 in Logan, Utah. Three years after they married she died from cancer. She was buried in the Logan City Cemetery.
