In Memory of George J. Lee
George Jackson Lee was burn Nov. 22, 1880. Professed faith in Jesus, 1899, was baptized into fellowship of Strong River church by J. C. Buckley. He held membership with this church some years, but later moved to the Whitesand church where held membership until the Lord called him home, March 11th, 1921. On March 6, 1906 he was married to Miss Epsie Williams and to them were born six children.
Bro. Lee enjoyed life and good health, but on March 3rd, was stricken with pneumonia. All that could be done, by human hands to overcome the disease was done for him, but to no avail, The Lord took him home.
Bro. Lee seemed to have been forewarned of the fact that this was a fatal sickness, for on March 9th two days before he died he (according to statements made by those present) had this to say, after calling for mercy on himself; "Oh Lord hear me," Then smilingly said "The Lord has heard me at last. I am so happy now. Father help me fill my cup. Oh Lord what will it take to fill my cup? I give Thee all my possessions, will that do? What will it take then Lord? Trust in the Lord for salvation and thou shalt be saved. I have done that. Lord Thou hast filled my cup."
I have been negligent in my Master work. I haven't loved my neighbors as I should. I haven't ' contributed to His cause as I should have done-" Then he askel that he might be spared so as to rightly teach his children to be useful in the world. But from statements made it seemed that he was impressed that the Lord had come for him, but ere he went away, he had a message for him to deliver to those who stood by him, his community, plus neighbors and his own people, some of whom live on Strong River. This seems, to have been the message he was impressed to give:
"Friends, be more humble, and thoughtful of the Lord's work, like Mary and Martha regularly in attendance at church and Sunday School contributing of means and time to Him and His cause."
He called attention to the fact that people are living and moving on at a very rapid rate, falling into all kinds of worship, such as houses, lands, money, automobiles styles.
He urged them to lay up treasures in heaven, where thieves cannot steal
Calling attention to the fact that ere we are aware of the fact we too would be called to face a like issue. He realized the fast approaching end Calling about him his family, calling each one by name, bid them goodbye after having warned them about the life which is to be. He asked asked that this statement be published in papers, and tell the people he was delivering the message from Heaven
The family has lost husband am father, community and church one on whom they could depend, but we believe our loss is his eternal gain.
A FRIEND.
