Alan Lommen, 88, Brookings, South Dakota, formerly of Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away October 25, 2018, at Brookings Health System.
Alan was born February 4, 1930, in Grand Forks, ND to Sidney and Helena (Berg) Lommen. He was raised and educated in Thompson, ND, and attended Concordia College before serving two years in the US Navy.
He married his true love Dorothy Heyerdahl on June 13, 1954, in Hannaford, ND. They raised their five children in Dickey, LaMoure, and Valley City. Alan worked as a banker and an addiction counselor.
Al was an avid weather-watcher, hunter, fisherman, and Diet Coke drinker. He and Dorothy made many beautiful memories at Lake of the Woods, and in later years, wintering in St. George, Utah. He loved to sing, was a master story-teller, and he never forgot a good joke.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, Brookings, SD; four children, Beth (Bruce) Holm, Elkton, SD; Scott Lommen, Brooklyn Park, MN; Jean (Don) Herauf, Dickinson; and Kristi (Gary) Houska, Grand Forks; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Lommen; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren nieces, and nephews.
