Mary Jane Finch (nee Burbridge), was born in East Knoyle in Wiltshire in 1866 the daughter of John Burbridge and his wife Marianne. She was baptised as Jane on the 22nd of July 1866. She has sometimes been confused with the daughter of Andrew Burbridge of the same village, but she clearly names her father as John when she marries in 1901. Her father was a labourer. In 1891 she was living with her widowed father and two older brothers, Henry and Edwin, in East Knoyle.

In 1901 she was working as a cook in Chertsey and on the 29th of June that year married Walter Finch at St Peter's Church in Frimley.

They had two daughters Evelyn Violet born in 1905 and Winifred Rose born in 1907. Winifred died aged 11 in 1918.
After the death of her husband Walter in 1930 Mary Jane continued to live in their home at The Grove until her death in 1937. Mary died in September 1937 and was buried on the 15th of September.
