Ms. Era Black, 96, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church (113 South 9th Street, Oxford). A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., also at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Tupelo Memorial Gardens in Tupelo, MS (south of the Joyner St. Elementary School). Bro. Jody Burnett will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Black was born in December of 1921 in Rainsville, AL. She spent most of her time being a homemaker to her loving family. Ms. Black received her college degree at the age of 60. She was previously employed as a cosmetic sales lady and also worked at Sears. Ms. Black served her country as a mechanic in the wartime effort during WWII and was also nicknamed "Rosie" after Rosie the Riveter. She also enjoyed traveling, art, and had a very special interest in painting.
