DEPUTY LOREN'S OBITUARY
Killed in the Line of Duty
Waller County Sherff’s Department

On October 31, 2018, on only her third night of solo patrol, Deputy Sheriff Loren Y. Vasquez, 23, of Brookshire, Texas, passed away while responding to a high-priority water rescue during severe storms.

Loren was born on March 2, 1995, in Reynosa, Mexico, the daughter of Adalberto and Blanca (Diosdado) Vasquez. After immigrating to the United States, Loren’s parents settled in the small town of Brookshire, Texas where she graduated from Royal High School, Class of 2013.

Loren lived her life to serve and give back to her community. Before becoming a law enforcement officer she worked with The Brookwood Community, a residential facility and vocational program for adults with disabilities.  Loren was not only a Deputy for the Waller County Sheriff’s Department, she was also a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the city of Brookshire. Loren enjoyed shopping, but her mission in life was public service as exemplified by her career and volunteer choices.

Loren is survived by her parents: Adalberto and Blanca Vasquez of Brookshire; brother: Augustine Vasquez of Brookshire; grandmother: Maria Vasquez of Brookshire; grandfather: Espiridion Diosdado Soto of Nuevo Progreso, Mexico; fiancé: Luis Cortez of South Houston; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Cipriana Olquin Hernera, and grandfather, Aurelio Vasquez.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral home at 819 Waller Avenue, Brookshire, Texas. A Rosary will be held at 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Community of Faith Church, at 16124 Becker Road, in Hockley, Texas. It is located right off U.S. Highway 290.
Interment will follow at the Pattison Methodist Cemetery in Pattison, Texas

After attending the very moving celebration on the life of Loren I think it should be noted about the service. Her family spoke of her with a very caring dialog. Her family was very close to her and valued her love very much. After the service there was a graveside service on the parking area of the church. There were officers all over the parking lot. There were several hundred officers in attendance. I notice officers from as far away as Lufkin, Freeport, Victoria, Harris County Constable Department, Houston Police, Harris County Sheriff’s Department, Waller City Police and the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers, Officers on horseback and The Waller County Sheriff’s office. There were several Sheriff’s from all over Texas and Sheriff R. Glenn Smith of Waller County was in charge. Then the friends and loved ones of Loren. Chaplain Monty Montgomery from the Houston Police Department lead an outstanding service along with Father Louis Gutierrez and Deacon john Pelletier.
