John Ray Jones, 64, of Cabe Road, Sylva, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Old Savannah Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. David Souderes and Clifford Parker officiated. Burial was in East Fork Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Bates, Brad Morgan, Jimmy Melton, Dustin and Jason Buchanan and Danny Hall. Honorary pallbearers were Levi, Samantha and Travis Buchanan, Bill Green, Dr. R.F. Hanich and staff, Dr. Deweese and staff and all church members.
A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he retired as a truck driver with Shell Oil Co. He was a son of the late Roy and Swannie Mills Jones.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jacinta Sharron Jones; one sister, Belle Cogdill; and one brother, Guy Jones.
Surviving are his wife, Jimmie Sue Cabe Jones; one daughter, Jennifer Rae Jones of Sylva; one son, Johnny Buchanan of Sylva; four sisters, Mary Ann Hall, Billie Joe Buchanan and Betty Wilkes, all of Sylva, and Ida Mae Holden of Bryson City; and three brothers, Noel Jones of Robbinsville, Bruce Jones of Sylva and Ronnie Buchanan of Sylva.
