Betty Mae Ostendorf, 89, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018, at EW Thompson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born December 23, 1928, in Oxford Junction, IA, daughter of Theodore Pierce and Florence Irene (Kelly) Buchanan.

On November 26, 1947, in Belmond, IA, she married John Ostendorf, who preceded her in death on December 25, 1976.

Betty was a cook at Alexander Consolidated School and CAL Community School in Latimer, IA. She was a member of Alexander First Reformed Church in Alexander, IA, and Mt. Herman Baptist Church in Sedalia, MO. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and baking.

Surviving are three children, Jolynn Ostendorf, of Sedalia, Kathryn Seher, of Sedalia, and John Ostendorf, of Bell Buckle, TN; six grandchildren; and a sister, Rande Shaffer, of Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Scott; two sisters, Ruth Coker and Jackie Johnson; and three brothers, Teddy Buchanan, Lyle Buchanan and Phillip Buchanan.

A memorial will be held later at Mt. Herman Baptist Church, with burial at a later date in the Alexander Cemetery in Alexander, IA.

Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
