Jon Jay Read was born to Mahlon Milton Read and Jean Brite (nee Lorentzen) Murdy Read in Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, California, USA.
CHILDHOOD
Jon was the baby of the family, the youngest of 5 children in the blended Read-Murdy household. He closest brother, "Richie" Read, his senior by 3 years. They were raised in the Lutheran Church, the faith of his Mother's side of the family dating back centuries.
The Read Murdy Family Home in Santa Barbara was less than a mile from the Santa Barbara Beach. As a child, Jon enjoyed the scenic meandering walk to the beach, and of course enjoyed the beach with his family.
Jon's maternal line is from at least seven generations of Paul Lorentzen's that were mostly Lutheran Ministers, which includes dating back to the German Revolution (c. 1849), that which his Dutch ancestors: a father and a college student son (where a large part of the German Revolution took place, on campuses with college students), escaped the German persecution of themselves and their families and escaped being murdered by fleeing to America.
Jon's Great Grandfather Paulus "Paul" Lorentzen, was the minister of the German Lutheran Church on Geary Street in San Francisco in the 1870's. Macy's Department Store took the place of this church. Sermons were given at that time in German, yet the Dutch-Germans WELCOMED ALL.
FAMILY STRIFE
Two of Jon's brothers, in the very least out of his family, did not accept Jon's decision in life. Sadly, they appeared to have had no appreciation for Jon's gifts; and moreso, were unable or unwilling to put differences aside for the sake of Family Love and Family Bond.
