He did his undergraduate work at Wofford College, Vanderbilt University, University of Chicago, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. He taught in colleges and universities in Tenn., Ohio, Neb., Iowa, and S.D. After retirement, he taught at Pembroke University in Robeson County, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, the Rev. Carlisle Sessions (Jack) Floyd and Bascom Lorraine (Sonny) Floyd; sisters, Doris F. Moore and Hazel F. Ellerbe.
