Enlisted, October 15, 1909, in Battery A, 1st Battalion. MANG. He was discharged December 10, 1911.

Enlisted, June 16, 1916, in Troop D, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. He mustered in for service on the Mexican border , with Troop D, June 30, 1916. Squadron A was assigned to Camp McAllen, Texas, as part of the 6th New York Division ( later to be the 27th Division ). He returned to New York City with Troop D , December 23, 1915, and mustered out of border service, December 28, 1916.
