Wendell served his country in the United States Navy as a Quartermaster-Signalman on two ships during the Korean War. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Political Science with Honors from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He had a life-long affiliation with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as President of the Abraham Lincoln Council, Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor and OA Chapter Lodge Chief, and Silver Beaver Award recipient.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth (nee Mittler); son, Steven; and grandson, Peter.
