Adeline Catherine ‘Dell” Voit, 96, of Westminster Village, in Terre Haute, quietly took the hand of her Lord and went to her heavenly home at 5:30 a.m. Dec. 30, 2009. She was born on Nov. 25, 1913, in Shirkieville, as Adeline Bidwa, a coal miner’s daughter. She attended Deming School and was a proud member of the “Black Cats” at Gerstmeyer Technical High School. She was a member of St. Ann’s Parish. Dell worked in her uncle’s grocery store and became a butcher. She also worked at Hulman Company stapling “Clabber Girl Baking Powder” cook books that were included in the cartons with the baking powder.

She married Stanley Paul Voit on June 23, 1934, in Terre Haute, and he preceded her in death. Stanley taught her how to plow a field at their farm on Rosedale Road and for many years the family became renowned for their excellent produce. Adeline also worked as a forklift operator during World War II for five years at the Terre Haute Ordinance, following that she became clerk at Ruben H. Donnelley Company for 21 years. She retired and continued with her love of gardening and working around her farm. Dell relocated to New Madrid, Mo., and Reston Va., before returning home to Terre Haute. Dell was a PTA president of Deming and helped consecrate Sacred Heart Church. She belongs to T.O.P.S. Club and MAL-PAL and Otter Creek home economics.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Sonya Anne Davis and husband Lowell D. Davis and Lynn Estelle Knott and husband Robert (Bob) Knott; five grandchildren, John Lowell Davis and wife Ruth, Andrea E. Davis, Kerrie E. Garcia and husband John; P. Ross Vickers and wife Valerie and Bart J. Vickers and wife Amy; eight great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Rose Bidwa. She also is survived by her ‘Westminster family’.

She developed a timeless circle of friendship with everyone with whom she came in contact and her spirit and warmth will be sorely missed by all of us.

Services are noon Saturday, at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
