He was born on April 15, 1935 in Middlesboro, Kentucky, son of the late Abraham Shackelford and Beatrice Evans Shackelford. Bobby was married to Milagros Lozada Shackelford on October 21, 1971 in Oceanside, California.
He was honored to serve his county in the United States Marine Corps. He earned various medals including Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Pistol Expert Badge, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Combat Action Ribbon. Bobby allowed the influence of his military career to set a standard in defining his life and his relationships with his family and friends. He enjoyed sports shooting, target practicing, and spending time with his wife before her death and traveling. Bobby was a strong willed, independent, Protector, and defender of others, as well as other values and characteristics he attributes to his experience in the Marine Corps. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by a son; Roger Shackelford, three siblings; Silis Ray Shackelford, Jacklyn Shackelford and Jack Shackelford, a brother-in-law; Clyde Johnson and a grandson; Bobby Joe Shackelford.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters; Alissa Walton (Chuck) of Somerset and Christina Shackelford of Brooklyn, New York, a Sister; Shirley Johnson of London, Kentucky, a granddaughter; Bailey Shackelford, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2018 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory.
Celebration of Life Service honoring Bobby Joe Shackelford will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November19, 2018 in the Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Altman officiating.
Interment will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky.
Full Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
