Sammie Leon Akins, 60, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - East in Memphis. He was formerly employed in maintenance at Parker-Hannifin in Holly Springs. He was a Baptist.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Bro., Lyndle Davis officiating assisted by Bro. Earl Barron. Burial will be in the Falkner Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lura Kay "Molly" Akins of Ripley; one son, B. Sean Akins and wife, Shelley, of Ripley; one sister, Pat Dyer (Stanley) of Monroe, Ga.; four brothers, Joe Akins (Barbara), David Akins (Pam), and Richard Akins, all of Blue Mountain, and Randy White (Madonna) of New Albany; three grandchildren, Bryce Scott Akins, Branton Seth Akins and Leigh Allison Akins, all of Ripley; two special cousins, Ethlene Barkley (Terry) and Carolyn Culver (Donald), all of Ripley.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Akins; his mother, Mary Agnes White; and one son, Tracey Scott Akins.

Pallbearers will be Matt Akins, Mark Akins, Ken Akins, Marty Miskelly, Tony Akins, Donald Culver, Justin Bennett and Lee Bennett.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o the Peoples Bank, Carolyn Sanderson, P.O. Drawer 419, Ripley, MS 38663 or to Academy Baptist Church, 2251 CR 700, Blue Mountain, MS 38610.
