Chandler Camden (Champ) Lester (son of William S. 'Tugg' Lester and Rebecca Simmons) was born November 03, 1809 in Alum Ridge Montgomery Co., VA, and died November 09, 1888 in Raleigh Co., (W)VA. He married Rachel McAlexander on March 05, 1835 in Patrick Co., VA, daughter of William McAlexander and Tamer Boothe.


Champ Lester came from Floyd Co., Virginia, to Raleigh Co., WV, in 1855. His five sons; Samuel, Job, Perry, Pearis, and Daniel were Confederte soldiers.
The town of Lester, Raleigh Co., Virginia, was named after Champ Lester. The town was started on land owned by him and John W. Gray.
