Leona attended Sweetwater and Greenview schools. Upon graduation Leona received a scholarship to attend the University of Illinois in Champaign. Eventually she became homesick, and returned home.
She chose her career at Pillsbury in the baking test labs here in Springfield. It was there she met her husband, Harold D. Butler, Sr., They were married 56 years before he passed in April 2004. Of this marriage they had four children: Teresa (Gary) McClanahan of Springfield, Kathleen (Edmund “Butch”) Fox of Sherman, H. Doug (Janet) Butler, Jr. of Springfield, Jean (Herbert “Butch” ) Wilkinson of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Eric McClanahan (Tanya Squries) of Riverton, Rick (Davina) Hatton of Concordia, MO, Mark (Jenifer) Butler of Overland Park, KS, Brett (Courtney) Butler of Dunlap, Shanon Jewett of Rochester, Christine (Brian) Gilley of Springfield, Sarah (Tom) Stout of Chatham; twenty great grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Braden McClanahan, Zachary Hatton, Savannah, Sloan Noble Hatton, Troy Brandt, Autumn Rippee, Bridgette and Brandi Butler, Luke Butler, Makenzie Wilkinson, Isabelle Basham, Kennedy Jewett, Blaine, Finley, Emmy Gilley, Alyson, Lauren, Penelope Stout.
Leona also is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and very good lifelong friends like Loretta Ralph since 1950 and Margaret Puschell. Family and friends were everything to Leona. She was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church.

Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Dr. Joe Eby officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery
