Myrtis Mayfield Martin was born the daughter of Ernest Moore and Mary Stuart Harriss Martin on January 31, 1917, in Stanly County, North Carolina.

According to the North Carolina birth index and District of Columbia marriage records, she was listed as Myrtis Stuart Martin.

Myrtis was the eldest of several siblings: Dora Gene; Ernest M; Mary Pauline; and Eloise.

Sadly, her father died in 1933. He had been a veterinarian.

On March 2, 1943, Myrtis Martin and Charles Dawson "Daws" Butler were married in the District of Columbia. At the time Daws Butler was in the U.S. Navy and Myrtis was working at the Pentagon.

After the war, Daws Butler would go on to do voice work in Los Angeles, California, being the original voice of Yogi Bear and many other cartoon characters.

Myrtis and Daws Butler had four sons. He died in 1988, after being married for 45 years.

Myrtis Butler died on November 15, 2018, in her home in Beverly Hills, California.

According to her online obituary, Myrtis was a supporter and volunteer for many organizations over many years to include St Anne's; Good Shepherd Shelter for Homeless Women and Children; and Nazareth House. Donations can be made to any of these organizations in lieu of flowers.

In addition to her four sons, Myrtis Butler was survived by her daughters-in-law, three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death.

Services will be Saturday, November 24, at 1:00 pm at Holy Cross Mortuary Chapel, Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
