DONALD GILBERT was killed in a one vehicle accident, Sat. at 7:30 a.m., September 20, 1969, two and a half miles from Ranger on Morton Valley highway. He had fallen asleep at the wheel and veered off the road, hitting a tree. He was 16, beginning his Junior year at school in the Class of 1971. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger.

Donald was born on April 11, 1953 in Lubbock, the son of Viola Beatrice Barton and O. M. 'Jack' Gilbert. The Gilbert family moved to Ranger in 1957. Donald was employed with a construction company out of Goldthwaite at the time of his death.

He was survived by his parents and four brothers and five sisters including sisters: Starlene and Tommy Boyett of Fort Worth; Kay and Jack Bodiford of Grand Prairie; Connie and Kenneth Hamlin of Palacios; Deborah Gilbert (RHS-1972) and Shannon Gilbert (RHS-1983) of Ranger; brothers, Marion of Fort Worth; Charlie of Odessa; Joe (RHS-1969) and twin brother Ronald of Ranger.
