He was born on January 15, 1950 in Memphis, Texas to O. M. and Viola Beatrice (Barton) Gilbert, Sr. He worked at Possum Kingdom Lake State Park and for Ranger Independent School District in janitorial services.
Survivors at the time of his death are a daughter, Diana Jolene Ford of Florien, LA; a son, Joseph Allen Gilbert of Florien, LA; two brothers, O. M. Gilbert, Jr. of Blessing, Texas and Ronald Dean Gilbert of Brownwood, Texas; five sisters, Starlene Hill and Kay New both of Abilene, Connie Snyder and Deborah Reed both of Oregon, and Shannon Sampley of Ranger; three grandchildren, Wesley Shayne Ford, Allyson Elivia Gilbert and Dalton Kade Ford, all of Florien, LA.
