Dorothy Kathleen "Kay" Butcher, 88, of Independence, passed away March 29, 2007, at the Monterey Park Nursing Center. Mrs. Butcher was born on July 2, 1918, to Edd and Dorothy (Hattey) Baldus in Jackson County, MO.

She worked for the Lake City Ammunitions Plant during World War II and also has been the bookkeeper for Butcher Standard Station for many years.

She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, sewing and embroidery.

She was a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church and was a member of its United Methodist Women's Group and the Prayer Chain.

Kay was preceded in death in 2001, by her husband, Earl Evermont Butcher.

She is survived by five children, Bob Butcher and wife Peggy of Lone Jack, MO; Ann Hughes and husband Archie, of Independence, MO; Margie Ryne and husband Ronnie of Bowling Green, KY; Jerry Butcher and wife Brenda of Independence, MO; and Sherrie Hamilton and husband Rod of Independence, MO; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A private interment will be at a later date in the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.
