Olga M. Acosta was born in the small Mexican mining town of Cananea, Sonora on November 26th, 1934 where she was raised by her mother and two grandparents. In Cananea she found her love for horses, dancing, her passion for teaching children and the love of her life, Gilberto Acosta. They were married on July 10, 1955 at which time they both made their journey to the united States without knowing how to speak English and without any family. In the years to follow, their family grew as Olga gave birth to Gilda, Gerardo, Graciela, Georgina and Gilbert.
Upton the untimely death of her husband, Olga graciously continued to raise her 5 children as a single parent. To make ends meet, she sewed clothes, ironed and baby sat for other people
To set an example for her children she shared her strong faith, hard-working ethic and graduated from Compton Community College to prove to her family that no matter the obstacles in life, with hard work you can achieve anything. In her own words saying "If I can do it, so can you," She later became a teachers-aide at Tibby Elementary and later at Davis Jr. High School where she gracefully retired. Her home was a safe haven to so many people she cared for; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, foster children and everyone that lived on Grandee Ave.
On August 9th, 2018 she passed peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family. She is survived by her two sons, Jerry and Tito, her two daughters Gilda and Gina, 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. They are all proud to carry on the legacy of love, laughter and faith that she left us all with. (All Souls Mortuary)
