Maurine D. Waetzig Lucas, 75, Wakarusa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008, at her home.
She was born January 22, 1933, in Wakarusa, the daughter of Roy Earl and Gertie Thelma Avey Barngrover.
Maurine attended Wakarusa Grade School, and graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1951.
She was employed by the State of Kansas where she worked in the Vital Statistics Office for over 20 years. Maurine was a member of the Wakarusa Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, teaching Sunday school and playing the piano for many years.
For the past eight years she was a member of the Overbrook and Burlington Church of Christ. She also was a member of the Wakarusa Ladies Aid Society, and EHU. Maurine enjoyed bowling, cooking, flowers and animals.
Maurine married Scott Bernard Waetzig, June 14, 1953, at the Wakarusa Presbyterian Church. He passed away May 8, 1991.
She married Thomas Lucas, November 7, 1998, in Bedford, TX. He survives at the home.
A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Wakarusa Presbyterian Church, Wakarusa, KS.
Burial will be in Carbondale Cemetery.
Maurine will lie in state from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Carey Funeral Home, where family will greet friends and relatives from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
